League of Legends Rewarding Players for Old Honor System

Anybody who played League of Legends before the release of the new honor system this past June might be eligible to receive a new summoner icon or two (or three or four or five!). The team at Riot has decided to release summoner icons that commemorate the old honor system, and they’ll be rolling out between now and the end of September.

League of Legends Old Honor System Rewards

Many players will remember the game’s former honor system, which allowed you to mark an opponent as honorable, or a teammate as friendly, helpful, or a team player. Now, Riot will be dishing out unique summoner icons to players who earned ribbons in each of those categories, or were in the top 10% of players in their region for each category of honor.

In addition, any player who had 10 or more total honors when the old system was retired will earn a new summoner icon featuring the old honor system graphics. The response from players to this reward was immediately caustic. Receiving honor a total of 10 times over the course of the last year is bound to include a lot of people, and those who had received hundreds, or even thousands of honor on the old system are feeling put out that their accomplishments aren’t being recognized.

Riot NaKyle, who authored the announcement earlier today, responded to players concerns, stating that the 10 or more honors icon is meant as a “participation award,” and that the other four icons, which feature newly designed graphics that correspond to the notions behind the old honor choices, are meant as “hard-mode rewards.”

Other people seem happy to complain about both the way the rewards will be administered and the fact that they’re only a summoner icon. The community is still awaiting the release of the revamped rune system, which is said to come along with compensation to people who spent IP and RP on runes over the course of their game play. Since players didn’t have to spend any points or money to earn honor, hopefully there’s something more in store for those who bought runes than a few summoner icons.
